within the past hour the ntsb said batteries aboard a 787 dreamliner created a short- circuit leading to the fire and now looking at manufacturing problems. that comes after they revealed yesterday that all eight cells of a 787's batteries showed thermal damage. the battery caught fire while the plan was empty and parked at the boston airport, all 50 dreamliners have been grounded worldwide while authorities in several countries investigate. >>> a a multi-million dollar security plan going in there. >> the harbaugh game find out who the parents said they will be cheering for on sunday. in two days. on monday, a battery in the 787 caught fire while the plane was on the ground. the ntsb is playing that one. there is a group of airplane analysts who write it off as growing pains for the plane born over a year ago. it is relatively young. for passengers we spoke to, the dream liner sounds more like a bad dream. >> i think people are nervous to get in the air in the first place. if they hear there are issues it's scary. >> i'm a daring person. but i can't fight falling from the sky. >> i will fly on the 787 at any time. i have confidence in the airplane. there will be teething problems with the airplane. it's common. >> the dream liner had problems well before this week. the first, in fact, during a test flight in 2010 when a fire actually started in the cabin. that forced an emergency landing. as of now we understand the ribbon cutting ceremony will go on as planned for the first flight bound for tokyo. if you want to hear more about the story the coverage will continue on "today" this morning. live from san jose international for "today in the bay." >> we are also wat

the cleanup and a $10 million fine. an ntsb investigation did determine that the bar pilot navigating the ship was impaired by prescription drugs. he spent ten months behind bars and had his pilot license revoked. one of the biggest factors in that accident was the weather. thick fog blanketed the bay. chief meteorologist jeff ranier is in the weather center with the conditions at the time of the incident. it was foggy at least interior. was it like that on the water? >> we did definitely have plenty of low clouds, also fog. weather, was this a prime factor in this? we can't say so far. there you can see the bay bridge in the center of your screen and that marker indicating that this collision again happening at tower 6 which is just off to the west of treasure island. once again, at 11:120 this morning, visibility was a quarter mile or less. it was a long area of low clouds that straddled right across the bay bridge. wind east-southeast at five miles per hour and wave heights anywhere from five to eight feet. what i will say is we have had fog, wind and also wave heights that have been much w
